Phone Theft Statistics 2026: The Numbers, Sourced
Most phone-theft numbers online trace back to nothing. These don't. Each figure below is pulled from a primary source - a government release, a regulator, a survey - and linked so you can check it yourself. We removed the ones we couldn't stand behind. What's left is the shape of the problem: how often phones vanish, where, what it really costs, and whether the fixes work.

How common it is

- In the year after Apple introduced Activation Lock, smartphone thefts from the person in London fell 40% and personal robberies of smartphones fell 38%.
