Reporting it to the police

File a denuncia (theft report) with the Policia Nacional (or Guardia Civil in rural areas). Tourists can pre-file online via the official Policia Nacional portal, but a theft report of stolen goods must be signed in person at a police station within 48 hours or it lapses - bring your passport, address and the phone's IMEI. Major tourist cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga) have dedicated tourist-assistance police offices (SATE) with multilingual staff. There is also a foreign-tourist help line on 902 102 112 with English-speaking agents.

For your insurance claim: Insurers require the signed denuncia (police theft report) and its reference number, plus the device IMEI. Without the denuncia the theft is not officially recorded and the claim cannot proceed.

Blocking your SIM

These are Spain's carriers - use them if your number is local. If your SIM is from your home country, call your own carrier's lost-phone line instead; nobody here can block a foreign SIM.

Orange's own help page gives +34 656 001 470 for personal customers calling from abroad or a non-Orange line to block the line (business +34 656 001 471). Also possible via the Mi Orange app or WhatsApp 653 85 00 85, or in a store for a SIM duplicate.

Your embassy

Getting back online

Spanish prepaid SIMs must be registered by law - you show a passport (an EU national ID is often no longer accepted at retail) at any Movistar/Vodafone/Orange/Yoigo store or airport kiosk. A travel eSIM bought online usually runs as a foreign roaming plan and sidesteps local ID registration, so on a borrowed device you can activate a fresh tourist eSIM if you can reach your account/email.
