Reporting it to the police

Report theft in person at the nearest police station or a Tourist Police (Touristiki Astynomia) office - Athens has a 24-hour tourist police desk. The Tourist Police line 1571 (from abroad +30 1571) has English, French and German operators. The report cannot be filed by anyone else on your behalf; bring your passport. If you have already left the area (e.g. flew home), you can email the airport police to forward a description to the local station.

For your insurance claim: Insurers require the Hellenic Police theft report and its reference number plus the device IMEI - carriers also need the police report (with the IMEI) to block the device.

Blocking your SIM

These are Greece's carriers - use them if your number is local. If your SIM is from your home country, call your own carrier's lost-phone line instead; nobody here can block a foreign SIM.

Your embassy

If your passport went with the phone, your embassy or consulate issues the emergency travel document - the local police can't. The official directory of foreign missions in Greece is here: find your embassy ↗. Bring the police report from the step above.

Getting back online

Greek prepaid SIMs and eSIMs require ID registration (passport) - the government mandates registration of prepaid mobile connections, so expect to show ID in-store or complete KYC in-app. On a borrowed device a fresh tourist eSIM can be activated if you can pass ID verification and reach your account/email.
